BERRINGER, David Steven

2021-12-13

It is with great sadness that the family of David Steven Berringer, 75, of First Peninsula, announce his passing on Monday, December 13, 2021 at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in First Peninsula, he was a son of the late Ralph and Marguerite (Church) Berringer.

David spent his whole working life in the fishing industry. In early years, he was a deckhand on scallop boats out of Lunenburg and Riverport. Then for several years he travelled to Prince Rupert, BC where he was employed as a seasonal halibut fisherman. He and his brother, Robert, were also lobster fishermen together for 45+ years, until his retirement in 2012. In his retirement years he bravely battled many health issues. When able, he enjoyed daily walks, working on lobster traps, drives in the truck with Bobby and chats with friends.

David was an integral part of a very close-knit family. He lived his entire life in the family home (the regular meeting place for the brothers) in First Peninsula, supporting his mother and helping other family members in any way he could. He was a quiet, honest, dedicated son and brother who placed great value on the close relationships with his siblings and their families.

David is survived by his sister, Gladys Tanner, Lunenburg; brothers, Basil (Evelyn) Church, First Peninsula; Ralph (Janette) Church, Centre and Robert (Elenor) Berringer, First Peninsula; as well as several nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his pup-nephew, Max, who visited him daily.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg. A graveside memorial service for David will be held at a later date.

Anyone who wishes to make a gift in David's memory, donations to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
