2024-01-08

Shirley Pauline (Chapman) Benjamin left us very peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.

Born in Amherst on October 14, 1928, she was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Marjorie (Miner) Chapman, as well as four younger siblings, Bob Chapman, Joan Laughton, Jack Chapman and Geraldine Goguen.

Prior to marriage she worked for Metropolitan Store in Amherst.

In 1947 Shirley married Ronald Benjamin. Together they had one daughter, Sheila.

Shirley assisted in running RR Benjamin Grocery and Meats until it closed in 1975.

In 1998 she became a widow but continued to live independently until 2011 when she went to reside at Victoria Manor. In 2015 Shirley moved to Harbour View Haven in Lunenburg where she spent the last 8 ½ years of her life.

Throughout her life’s journey Shirley enjoyed multiple hobbies from sports, to crafts, to deer hunting. She always had a soft spot for animals and is survived by one of her precious cats.

She was a very strong, practical, resilient, and intelligent person with the ability to speak her mind when she felt the need.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Sheila Benjamin, Mahone Bay.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Highway 3, Lunenburg. Cremation has taken place. Interment with her husband will take place in the Amherst Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to your local animal shelter or just being kind to others and animals.

Love you Mom, rest in peace
