It is with great sadness that the family of Robert (Bob) King Greenlaw, 89, of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, announces his passing on Sunday March 1, 2020 at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born on July 24, 1930 in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Robert was the son of the late Harold and Ruby (Thorne) Greenlaw. After graduating from Mount A Academy, he went on to earn a degree in medicine from Dalhousie University in 1958. He received surgical training at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and received his orthopaedic surgical residency at the University of California in San Francisco. He completed a Masters of Science degree at McGill University and earned a Ph.D. in anatomy at Queen’s University in 1973. He completed many international professional fellowships and worked as an orthopaedic surgeon across Canada and the US, enjoying a number of university teaching positions, for over forty-five years. He was extraordinarily fond of his Newfoundland dogs and many dear cats. He enjoyed time at the cottage, fly fishing, sailing, and dreaming big dreams. He was involved in his church and was a Freemason. Robert is survived by his wife, Faye of Tennessee; daughters, Terry (Bill MacGillivray), Kingsburg NS, Beverly, Oakland NS, Pamela (Roger) Cemelli- Brinkerhoff, New York, Margo (Liam) McClish, Tennessee; sons, Roderick, Washington State and Robert (Kim), Texas; grandchildren, Morgan, Helena, Lauren, Kaylan, Ember, Alder, Jamie, Carissa, April, Kristin; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is missed by his loyal feline companions, Nora and Bella. Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothea (Wallis), son John, second mother Ruby, brother Harold and grandson Logan. A service to celebrate Robert’s life will be held at a later date at Greenock Presbyterian Church, St. Andrews, NB. Interment will be in St. Andrews Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to ElderDog Canada or to the IWK Children’s Health Centre, Halifax. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to all of the staff of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, with a special thank you to Robert’s physicians and nurses for their kindness and dedicated care.
