It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Pauline (Stevens) Publicover, age 98, of Blandford. She died peacefully at Shoreham Village surrounded by family on March 9, 2022.

Phyllis always wanted to be a teacher and began teaching at age 17 on Little Tancook. She later taught at Mill Cove and Blandford, spending the last seventeen years of her career as principal of Blandford Elementary School. Phyllis was a passionate teacher and cared deeply about her students.

An avid volunteer, Phyllis received the 2003 Provincial Volunteer Representative Award for the District of Chester for her many decades of work. She volunteered for the Lunenburg Retired Teacher’s Association, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Chester Christian Women’s Club and Shoreham Village Auxiliary to name a few. She was also very involved with St. Barnabas Anglican Church. She served in the Ladies Guild, the Altar Guild and Sunday School for many years.

Phyllis enjoyed participating in community activities, especially bingo, card games and dances. She was a member of the Blandford Seasiders Senior Club and the Blandford and Area Historical Society. She also enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, knitting, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She loved to entertain and cook for her family and friends, who have many fond memories of their times together. She also enjoyed eating out, especially at The Deck.

Phyllis loved to travel, taking bus trips with her husband and later, her daughters. Her last trip was a Caribbean Cruise (at age 92). She also liked going to concerts, her favorite being Charley Pride, who she saw many times.

Phyllis was predeceased by her mother Lillian (Stevens) Hume, stepfather Edgar Hume, husband Ralph, daughter Roxanne and son-in-law John Andrews, stepsisters Marion Mosher, Ruth Hiltz; stepbrothers Vincent Hume, George Hume, Francis Hume.
