SIMPSON, Danny

2023-12-05

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Danny Eldred Simpson of Hemford, Lunenburg County, NS. Danny passed away at home on Tuesday December 5, 2023. He was born in Stanley Section, Lunenburg Co., on April 23, 1956, at the home of his parents, the late Claude Daisy (nee Veinot) Simpson.

Danny and Donna met as teenagers at The South Shore Exhibition. Over the next 48 years they worked together to raise and provide for their boys, build a farm, and enjoy life. He was a hardworking and kind man. Danny was a loving father to his boys, Jeremy and Adam. Throughout the years, he set an example of a strong work ethic, perseverance and an unbreakable spirit; continuing to work throughout his cancer diagnosis. Danny’s six grandchildren gave him endless joy. He took the time to make sure they were able to join 4H, go to exhibition and he could always be counted on to buy them a farm animal(or two) to take home. Spencer, Madelyn, Max, Sadye, Charlotte and Lydia will miss being able to spend time with their Papa. Because of him they are able to make hay, care for animals, process meat, ride horses, team oxen and catch cattle.

Danny was a good friend to many in his community and beyond, often loaning out items to people, expecting nothing in return. He was always looking for a deal, whether it was a vehicle, cattle or tractors. Danny was the original Hemford Buy and Sell. He could find anything you were looking for. He was an experienced farmer, raising cattle and had a passion for both oxen and horses. Danny was skilled in many trades, including heavy equipment repair and welding. If it was broken, he could find a way to get it fixed and running. For many years, he was a general leader for the Livewires 4H Club in Parkdale-Maplewood.

In their younger days Jeremy, Adam and Danny often worked together during the winter months in the woods cutting and hauling home Danny’s firewood each year. In the summer, Danny looked forward to the challenge of making hay for his cattle. He was always proud to see the stacks of hay rolled, wrapped and ready to feed over the winter. Danny enjoyed going to the cattle sale in Lawrencetown, hunting, visiting with friends, searching for deals on Kijiji and relaxing by his warm stove in the living room.

Danny’s working life was important to him. He was a valued employee over the years at Acadia, Dillman Enterprises, Howard Little Excavating, Bernard Mailman Projects and Dexter Construction. His last working years were spent at Freeman Lumber. He was proud of his work there and valued his many friendships he formed. He often spoke highly of his work life.

He was a brother to David, Anna, Juanita, Vonnie, Diane, Sonny, Susanna, Donna, Dale, Sheila and Sandra and was predeceased by an infant brother, Lemert.

Danny is survived by his wife, Donna (nee Mosher); his sons, Jeremy and Adam; six grandchildren, Spencer, Madelyn, Max, Sadye, Charlotte and Lydia. He had a large extended family that included many nieces and nephews, brother and sister in-laws as well as close friends who became family. The sound of his voice and his mischievous laugh will be missed by all those close with him.
