STRICKLAND, Dannie Clayton

2023-12-06

With deep sadness our family announces the sudden passing of Dannie Clayton Strickland, 63, of Lunenburg on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Bridgewater, Dannie was the son of Louise (DeMone) Strickland and the late Clayton Strickland of Blue Rocks.

Dannie grew up spending his time between his home in Blue Rocks and Garden Lots, where he was always surrounded by family. As he progressed through the workforce, Dannie found his niche in the insurance industry where for over 20 years, he thrived on providing the best service for his clients. Dannie took pride in his profession, and he was honoured to be a broker and manage the Lunenburg office of Strum Insurance for the past 11 years. Dannie was happiest when he was entertaining a kitchen full of friends and family, and he was notorious for hosting elaborate parties. He took great pride in giving to those he found dear, and he ended nearly every day of work with a visit to his granddaughter, Peyton. Dannie loved spending time relaxing around his mother’s pool while Peyton practiced her swimming. Dannie had an eye for detail and would always be the first to lend a helping hand with any form of décor. Christmas was Dannie’s favourite time of year as he took great pride in decorating a picture-perfect tree, and he loved hosting festive gatherings.

Dannie is survived by mother, Louise Strickland (Capt. Douglas Himmelman), Blue Rocks; daughter, Lauren Strickland-Bird (Jame Bird), son, Riley Strickland, both of Lunenburg; adored granddaughter, Peyton Strickland-Bird; step-grandchildren, Emily and Jame Bird; brother, Jimmie Strickland (Marilyn Moore), Front Centre; aunts, Elaine DeMone, Garden Lots and Catherine DeMone, Lunenburg; chosen brother, Ronnie DeMone (Shelley) and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Clayton, maternal uncles, Wayne and Douglas and paternal uncle, Charles.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway, Lunenburg. A service to celebrate Dannie’s life will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Rick Pryce, officiating. Reception to follow at the Lunenburg Curling Club.
