TANNER, Aileen Elizabeth

2024-02-19

It is with great sadness that the family of Aileen Elizabeth Tanner, 97, of Stonehurst, announce her passing on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Shoreham Village in Chester.

Born in Lunenburg, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Nellie (Greek) Tanner.

Aileen was a warm, kind, and loving person, Matriarch of four generations, loved by all around her. A lifelong resident of Blue Rocks and Black Rocks, her early married years were full of family, kitchen parties, great food, music, and dancing. She was a long-time member of St Paul’s United Church who enjoyed the weekly services as well as the many social events. In recent years, her time was spent peacefully in the home she loved being cared for by her daughter Susan. She enjoyed being visited by family, friends, and neighbours, but in truth, we benefited as much from her warm and caring smile than she did from these many cherished visits. Nanny’s smile and the way she could fill a room with pure joy is how her family and friends will always remember her.

Aileen is survived by her daughter, Susan Tanner, Stonehurst; grandchildren, Tony (Leslie) Mosher, Wellington, Heidi (Andrew) MacDonald, Middle LaHave, Erika (Alex) Ferguson, Ottawa; great-grandchildren, Talon, Brittany, Tristan, Saige, Liam; great great-grandson, Harvey; step-granddaughter, Kourtney Cavanagh, Edmonton; step-great-grandchildren, Kya, Deblin; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Aileen was predeceased by her husband, Hazen; son Eric and brother, Cedric.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg and from where a memorial service was held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, Rev. Heather Ferrier officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Lower Blue Rocks Cemetery, Blue Rocks.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Lower Blue Rocks Cemetery, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
