It is with great sadness that the family of Hugh Angus Corkum, 82 of Lunenburg, announces his passing on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Lunenburg, Hugh was the son of the late Hugh and Natalie (Bachman) Corkum.

Following in his father’s footsteps in policing, Hugh joined the Halifax Police Force in 1961 and remained with the force all of his working life retiring in 1995.

He was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg where he was a choir member and member of the session and supported the work of the church in any way he could.

Hugh took an active interest in the Town of Lunenburg and over the years was a member of the Lunenburg Academy foundation where he oversaw the Historical Room, shared with many folks his collection and history of anything related to Lunenburg, the Bluenose and his stamp collections.

He is survived by his sister, Sandra Veenstra, of Chilliwack, BC; nephews, Bill (Susan), Daniel (Tammie); nieces, Natalie (John) and Margo (George); great nieces and nephews, Matthew, Lindsay, Julia, Adella, Chris (Holli), Natalia, Darion, Joshua and Amy and great-great niece and nephew, Peyton and Oakley.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law, Bill Veenstra.

A service to celebrate Hugh’s life was held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Tom Summers, officiated. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, The Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice, through the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg.
