BOLIVAR, Wilton Eldred

2021-11-15

Wilton Eldred Bolivar was born on September 21, 1921 in Baker Settlement and passed away peacefully on November 15, 2021 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, with his family by his side. He was the youngest son of Purdy and Mabel (Simpson) Bolivar.

He is survived by his long time partner of 55 years and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Ralph, Mildred, Thelma, Maurice, Edna, Flora and Lydia.

Wilton lived his entire lifetime of 100 years in Baker Settlement. At age 16 he went off to work in the lumber woods and later decided to stay at home and run the farm. He looked after his sick mother for years while running the farm, raising cattle and pigs. After his mother passed away, he continued to work the farm, as well as working away doing carpenter work.

In 1978 he sold the farm and built his new home just a short distance from his home place and then took up the task of driving a school bus but until he retired at age 65. Lots of good memories there, and he was still friends with lots of the kids he drove on the bus.

Later in life he joined the Baker Settlement Volunteer Fire Department and served there for 19 years, part of which time he was their Chief. Wilton loved to help people and he was involved in the community with the community hall, cemetery, churches and just overall was helpful to his community members.

Wilton was known for his easy going ways and kindness to others. He loved to have his many friends visit and really enjoyed chatting it up and exchanging old stories. He loved his camping trips and especially loved going to the camp for hunting. He continued to cut his own firewood up until a couple of years ago. Another of his pleasures was to listen to the country music shows on the radio every Saturday night. He also liked to play cards, 45s especially and it seems he always won - maybe he cheated a little.

Wilton was always concerned with others and tried to help out whenever he could, even insisting on drying the dishes for Diane right up until the end. He loved good food, especially hamburgers and chocolate.

Funeral arrangements were carried out by R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, with a graveside service held at the Baker Settlement Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Willis Ott. Pallbearers were Matthew Crouse, Steven Ward, George Selig, Trevor Norwood, Scott Norwood and Michael Bolivar.

Donations in Wilton's memory can be made to the Baker Settlement Cemetery Association, Baker Settlement Community Hall, Baker Settlement Lutheran Church, Baker Settlement Union Church or a charity of your choice.
