2022-01-14

It is with great sadness that the family of Harold Robert Acker, 86, of First South, announces his passing on Friday, January 14, 2022, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in First South, he was the last born to late Frank and Ellen Acker.

Harold attended the one room schoolhouse in First South along with his eighteen siblings. He married his wife, Diane Zinck of Rose Bay on Sept. 21, 1962. They resided in First South with Harold's parents. Both being life-long members of Grace Lutheran Church, as well as choir members and Sunday school teachers, superintendent, as well as council members. Harold and Diane built a lovely camp in Rose Bay in the 70s where they took many of their nieces and nephews to enjoy the swimming, clam digging, campfires and our favourite game of Croquet. Years later the camp was sold and they purchased a travel trailer and once again took many of us along for weekends at Keji Park.

He worked at Lunenburg Foundry as a furnace installer as well as being promoted to the sales team. After leaving the foundry, Harold took a job with the Town of Lunenburg working at the arena and community centre, before retiring. Once retired he spent countless hours gardening, both veggies and beautiful flower gardens along with a meticulously manicured property and he enjoyed being in the kitchen cooking. Harold had a fondness for his furry four legged friends, especially his latest dog "Lady", which he adored.

Harold is survived by sisters, June Briand of Lunenburg, and Shirley Wile of Lower LaHave, his caregiver and special niece, Darlene Acker and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by his loving wife, Diane; sisters, Florence, Marion, Grace, Olive, Isabel, Gladys, Irene, Lottie, Emily and Katherine; brothers, Lewis, James, Allan, Roy, Grevel, and infant brothers, Charles and Theodore.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Highway 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service to celebrate Harold's life will be held at a later date at Grace Lutheran Church, First South.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church, SHAID Tree Animal Shelter or to a charity of your choice. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
