TURNER, Arlyn E.

In loving memory of Arlyn E. Turner, born on August 20, 1940, in New Ross, Lunenburg County, and peacefully passed away on November 30, 2023, after a brief stay at Liverpool Regional Hospital.

Arlyn was the devoted son of Edward and Beulah (Freeman) Turner, New Ross, both of whom predeceased him.

Arlyn’s professional journey was marked by dedication and service. From 1957 to 1975, he worked for Lands and Forest before venturing into entrepreneurship, co-founding a survey company with his brother Erwin in 1980. He then served as a superintendent of highways in Queens Co. from 1982 to 1994. Arlyn was actively involved in community affairs, contributing his time and wisdom to the Queens Municipal School Board.

His commitment to community extended to leadership roles in the local Boy Scout pack from 1975 to 1976, presidency of the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Association, and membership in Masonic Lodge No. 78 in Caledonia, and in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. Arlyn’s influence reached the Pleasant River community, where he served as president of the community hall and cemetery and as an elder of Trinity United Church. In 2002 he was awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal for his outstanding community service.

A passionate conservationist, Arlyn and his beloved wife, Jeanette, dedicated themselves to preserving the Blanding’s turtle population, ensuring their safety by carefully protecting them from predators. Arlyn found joy in salmon fishing and cherished moments spent outdoors, taking memorable trips up north to pursue his love for fishing.

In addition to his many accomplishments, Arlyn had a passion for craftsmanship. He found solace and joy in his workshop, where he lovingly created beautiful handmade bowls and objects. Arlyn’s artistic creations were not only a reflection of his talent but also a testament to his generosity. Many of these pieces, crafted with precision and care, found their way into the homes of those who admired his work. Arlyn took great pleasure in sharing his creations, finding joy in the delight others experienced through his artistry. His life lives on not only in the memories of his diverse contributions but also in the tangible beauty he crafted for others to cherish.

His legacy also includes a significant contribution to the Christmas tree industry, sending trees to various parts of the world. Arlyn’s infectious smile, twinkling eyes, and ever-ready jokes created an atmosphere of warmth and joy. He treated everyone with respect and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on those he encountered.

Arlyn is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jeanette, his daughter, Pamela, son-in-law, Rene, and his two cherished grandchildren, Max and Dexter (Hammonds Plains.) Also left to mourn is his sister, Holly Gunn (Eldon deceased) (Dartmouth) and many extended family members. He was predeceased by infant sister, Heather, and brother Erwin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of your choice, with a special consideration for organizations devoted to nature and wildlife conservation.

Arlyn E. Turner leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those around him. Memorial Service was held 11 a.m. Monday December 11, 2023, in R.A.
