BARLOW, Frances Elizabeth

2023-03-14

Age 80, of New Canada, died peacefully in her sleep on March 14, with Harold and daughters close by. Born in Beauharnois, Quebec, May 18, 1942; died at Parkstone Enhanced Care, Clayton Park NS, March 14, 2023.

Survived by husband Harold, daughters Kelly Dye (Bruce) and Kim Barlow (Zeb Brown), nephews Paul Hulme (Colleen), Stephen Hulme (Jennifer), and grandchildren Elias, Hamish and Maisie, as well as the Barlow nephew and nieces Bethany, Greg, Lisa and their children.

Frances Barlow (née Hulme) was a beloved Grade 2 teacher at West Northfield Elementary School for over 30 years. In retirement she loved her daily walk in the woods, and doting on her grandchildren, looking after Kelly’s dog Nicky when Kelly was travelling, visiting the pool and the library in Bridgewater, and Risser’s Beach in summer.

Frances and Harold were high-school sweethearts and enjoyed 60 years of marriage. They started a family in Maple Grove, Quebec, lived in Ottawa for a few years and then made the move to Nova Scotia. They settled close to her parents, Kay and Fred Hulme, who lived in Branch LaHave. Harold and Frances raised their girls in the country with fresh air, frogs in the pond, and horses in the pasture. Frances was an avid rider and loved to explore the woods roads on her horse Scotty. They lived in their beautiful hilltop home in New Canada from 1976 to 2021, when they moved to the Valley and then Clayton Park as their care needs increased.
