2023-11-29

With heavy hearts, the family of Hilda Carr (Geddes) Higney, announces her passing on November 29, 2023, at Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.

Loving Momma Bear, devoted and cherished Nana and Grand Nana. Hilda was a master in the kitchen, wonderful hostess, barber, and gardener. She enjoyed poker and card games and appreciated antiques. Hilda was happiest when hosting meals and having fun with family and friends near and far. When the Geddes sisters and brothers got together, look out! Lots of fun, laughter, and love. Hilda deeply loved and respected all her brothers and sisters and had great relationships with all of her Higney family as well.

Hilda was born in Truro, NS, on July 30, 1943. Raised on their Valley Crossroads farm, Colchester Co, NS, Hilda was the 12th of 13 children born to Clarence and Hilda (Worth) Geddes. Her parents lovingly called her " little brown nut." As a teen, Hilda moved to Dartmouth to live with her brother Dexter. There she met Gerry, the love of her life, and they married on February 11, 1961. Hilda and Gerry moved to Riverport, NS, in February 1964, when Gerry started his scallop dragging career. Settling in Middle LaHave, NS, they raised their family where her home was always welcoming to family and friends.

Hilda donated her time and efforts raising funds for various organizations. She had the distinction of Labatt's Blue Big Brothers/ Sisters U.G.L.Y.est Bartender (Understanding. Generous. Loveable. You) two years in a row! A past member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater, and St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Parish where she also taught children's Catechism.

Hilda is lovingly missed and honoured by her son Brad, daughter Cathy (John Langille), and chosen son Jim O'Hagan; grandsons Julien Langille, Matthew Higney, Joseph Langille, Lucas Higney; great-grandsons James Higney and Wesley Langille; great-granddaughter Claire Hilda Ruby Higney; sisters Greta Dilman, Gwendolyn (GG) Geddes (Frank Fawson).

Besides her parents and infant twin sisters, Hilda's previous loves lost are husband Gerry and son Sean Patrick; siblings Clare (Classina) Geddes, Bernie (Shirley) Geddes, Graham (Jeanne) Geddes, Ted (Helen) Geddes, Dexter (Shirley) Geddes, Charles (Laila) Geddes, Marjorie (Wally) Loughead, Georgie (Theodore) Hingley; brothers in-law Ross Leslie and Charlie Dilman.

Hilda was a vivacious force and an experience to be had. Her wit and warmth left an indelible impression. From her days in the 70s and 80s, a bartending legend; to becoming a Realtor/ Broker in the later 80s.

Hilda possessed a magic, her unsurpassed generosity, and her ability to make you feel welcomed, loved, and cared for. She used this energy to make others feel magical too. Her family will feel her absence and her love every day, her memory a comfort and blessing. Always in our hearts. God Speed.
