Vehicle jumps curve; driver, pedestrian injured

LUNENBURG - Two people were injured in Lunenburg following a single vehicle accident on the morning of Aug. 11.

A 78-year-old man from Lunenburg suffered serious injuries when he and his Jeep Wagoneer, jumped the curb at the intersection of Duke and Montague Streets in Lunenburg and drove onto the staircase leading down to Bluenose Drive.

The driver and his vehicle struck a 52-year-old Halifax man on the way down the hill, before it stopped on Bluenose Drive, where the Trot-in-Time Carriage Tours pick-up and drop-off is located. The business does not open until 11 a.m.

Members of the Lunenburg District RCMP, fire and EHS responded to the collision at about 9:45 a.m., according to an RCMP news release.

The two men were taken to a Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, then taken to Halifax via LifeFlight.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 76-year-old female, was not hurt in the incident.
