BRIDGEWATER - A weekend of fun and a show of local support, leading up to Halloween night is slated for the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre (LCLC).

Organizer Mikayla Giammaria, Travel with Mik, has put together two fun events that will help support local families.

Making its return for the second straight year, will be the Trunk or Treat fundraiser that will happen in the back parking lot of the LCLC on Oct. 29 from 2 to 4 p.m.

"Last year we had about 400 youth attended the trunk or treat and we raised over $1,500. It was definitely a learning curve for me and we made some improvements for this year's event, so I'm excited to see how much we raise this time," she said.

Giammaria works with the Salvation Army to distribute gifts for the children, Christmas food and gift vouchers, to families in need in the Bridgewater area.

Last year's money went to support six children and four families.

Giammaria expects more than 20 trunks to be in attendance at this year's event. Each youth gives a donation ($5 suggested) at the entrance, then they can go around and collect their treats from each trunk. Everyone is encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes to show them off.

Prior to this date, adding to the weekend of fun this year, is a Halloween Food Truck Party scheduled for Oct. 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. also at the LCLC parking lot.

About 10 decorated food trucks are expected to attend this inaugural event, which will work much the same. Each participant can enter the event with a donation, then head to the food truck of their choice (food is not free).

Everyone will also have a chance to vote for the best decorated food truck at the event.

All money raised will once again be given back to area families in need.

Giammaria said that her family have been doing this for a number of years prior to 2022, but on a much smaller scale. As personal circumstances changed, she decided to step things up and try and help more people and put on an event for the children to enjoy at the same time.
