Two small businesses in Mahone Bay were broken into over the September 9 weekend.

Lunenburg District RCMP say an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from Get The Scoop, an ice cream shop on Main Street, and BayTub Softubs.

Corporal Darren Slaunwhite of the Lunenburg District RCMP says the detachment received calls regarding the thefts shortly before 10 a.m. on September 9.

Lisa Purcell, the owner of Get The Scoop, says she found the shop in disarray when she came to open for the day.

She says the suspect(s) entered her establishment through a window by placing a large garbage can on top of a raised bed of flowers. The window and screen were damaged in the process.

"They cut the screen, climbed through, there's a foot print on the table," said Purcell.

Purcell says she's thankful the thieves didn't vandalize the business although they did go through her desk and take some cash.

Purcell posted about the theft on her business' Facebook page in hopes that the suspects would read it, however, she also hopes that other small businesses in the area become aware of the issue.

This is the third break and enter in the town in under two weeks. P'lovers, a business on Edgewater Street, was also broken into over the August 29 weekend.

"We have to change the attitude that this a 'sleepy little town' though evidently it's not," said Purcell.

The owners of BayTub Softubs declined to comment on the matter.

There are no suspects at this time and RCMP are asking anyone with information to call the detachment.
