The Queens District RCMP is asking for the public's assistance regarding a firearms complaint in Liverpool August 26.

Shortly after 10 a.m. members of the RCMP received reports about a man walking down the street with a handgun while spinning it around.

Multiple officers responded near a home where the man was last seen. The suspect was located and apprehended shortly afterward.

Upon close inspection, police determined the firearm was a BB gun and that there was no safety risk to the public.

The individual was taken into custody and charges are pending.

The RCMP are reminding people that air guns and replica firearms often look real and may be subject to some penalties under the Criminal Code if used to imitate a real firearm.
