New bus service to serve the South Shore

As predicted back in June, Maritime Bus is starting a new service between Halifax and Lunenburg that will also link Bridgewater, Chester and Mahone Bay.

The new service is set to launch on September 10 in Bridgewater.

The announcement and schedule is on Maritime Bus's website..

The bus company plans three trips per day between the four South Shore towns and Halifax, with connections to and from the rest of the Maritime Bus network.

Anticipated costs are $57.84 from Bridgewater to Halifax, while local connections will be substantially cheaper with a fare between Lunenburg and Bridgewater costing about $13.50.

Back in June, Suzanne Lohnes-Croft, the Liberal MLA for Lunenburg, told a Halifax newspaper that the service could be in place as early as September, and was calling for funding of $300,000 over two years for the pilot project.
