SHAID Tree Animal Shelter

Here at SHAID Tree Animal Shelter, we have seen another one of our busiest cat intake years on record, already surpassing 360 intakes in 2023 with over two months to go, and a substantial waiting list of homeless and abandoned cats waiting to be brought in.

We have been working around the clock trying to keep up with demand and again, we appreciate your understanding and patience.

Helping stray and feral cats during the colder months is something everyone can do to help our homeless feline community. Cat shelters can literally save feline lives, and they are so simple to make!

Either a thick Styrofoam bin (used to ship food and/or medical supplies) or a Rubbermaid bin with a removable top, with the sides and bottom packed with thick Styrofoam sheets. Straw as the bedding works the best; blankets soak up moisture which in turn can freeze.

You'll want to place a base of straw or a wood pallet on the ground, and then place the insulated container on top. A door should be cut no wider than 15cm, and near the middle, not at the bottom of the shelter to keep excess moisture out. Cat shelters should be tucked away and not set out in an open area so cats feel safe and willing to use them.

SHAID Tree Animal Shelter is open to the public Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Our community is encouraged to drop in during those hours to visit and socialize with adoptable pets!

If you'd like to help, our most needed items are cat and kitten food (both dry kibble and canned), wood pellets, paper towel, javex and other cleaning supplies. As always, thank you to our amazing community for your continued support, helping us work together for the animals in need.
