We at SHAID Tree Animal Shelter are so pleased that all of our adorable beagle-terrier mix family found their forever homes within a couple weeks.

Beagle dad Reggie and terrier mix momma Midge were the last two to leave the shelter, while eight-month-olds Jughead, Archie, Betty and Veronica were quickly scooped up by their approved and experienced families. We want to thank the six families that opened their hearts and homes to these dogs.

Since then, we have welcomed elegant Ashta to the shelter, a four-year-old blue merle Great Dane. She is on the small side for the breed, weighing in at only 54 kg (males can weigh up to 90 kg!).

She is social, quiet, and very polite, but has no previous experience with children or cats. She is also grieving the loss of her human dad. We are looking for an experienced home for Ashta; someone who will help her work through her sadness and rebuild that human bond that she is desperately missing. She has been vet- checked, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for parasites, and is awaiting her spay surgery. For more information about Ashta, please email info@shaidanimalshelter.com.

Great Danes are a very unique breed. They are among the largest dogs in the world and originally hail from Germany and used for boar hunting and as guardians to German nobility.

There are seven official Great Dane colours: black, blue, fawn, brindle, merle, mantle, and harlequin. Their colour genes are so specific that certain colours are prohibited from being bred together as they can cause a wealth of health issues. Their life span is generally eight-to-10 years.

Our adoption fees for dogs include their spay or neuter surgery, vet check, parasite prevention, vaccinations, and microchip, and if they need any further treatments (like Midge's "cherry eye" surgery, Martha's dental surgery and Nova's entropion surgery), that is also included at no extra charge. Fees for puppies are $600; adults six months to six years $450; and $250 for dogs aged seven and older.

If you have any questions, please email info@shaidanimalshelter.com, or call us at 902-543-4849. We hope you are all enjoying the dog days of spring, and we'd like to extend the warmest and most appreciative thank you to our wonderful supporters.
