RUEL, Anne Judith

2020-04-28

Anne Ruel, daughter of Irma and Curtis Hirtle (both deceased) passed away at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater after a short bout with cancer.

She will be sadly missed by her beloved husband Roger; sisters, Jane Hollis (Harlow) and Barbara Bell (Bruce); brother-in-law, Joseph Ruel and sisters-in-law Carmel and Odile; her uncle Billy Hirtle (Margie) and her aunt Muriel Webber. She is also survived by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, from coast to coast in Canada as well as Saint-Pierre and Miquelon and France.

Anne married Roger on November 30, 1975 and they spent their working years in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia as well as Saskatoon and Regina, SK. In 2001, they retired to Clearland, NS and Anne was thrilled to be back on the east coast (home). She was an avid collector of goodies which she would acquire, research, price and resell at her stall at Mom’s Buy & Sell in Lunenburg. Weekends often involved  hopping in the van in search of these treasures at auctions or flea markets or wherever, sometimes with Roger at the wheel.

Anne volunteered at the Mahone Bay Museum for many years and managed Granny’s Attic which was held as part of the annual Scarecrow Festival and Antique Fair.

She will be remembered for her laugh – and for her long hair. She will be sorely missed by all, but most of all by Roger and their dog Kiwi.

A special thanks to Dr. Chaisson and Dr. Gowan, and the wonderful palliative care team at the South Shore Regional Hospital.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a memorial will be held at a later date.
