Age 86, of Chester, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 2, 2017, in Shoreham Village Seniors Care Home. Born in Westmount, Que., he was the middle son of the late Alexander Leslie McCulloch and Eleanor Mildred (Sykes) McCulloch. Ian graduated with an LLB from Dalhousie in 1954 and then with his late wife, Gretchen (Hewat) of Lunenburg, raised his family in Oakville, Ont. He served as Solicitor for General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada between 1985-1994, Chancellor of the Ontario Provincial Synod from 1988-1994, and in 1995 received the Anglican Award of Merit. Ian loved choral music and his rich baritone voice graced the choirs of St. Jude's Church (Oakville, Ont.), Grace Church-on-the-Hill (Toronto, Ont.), and finally Saint Stephen's Church (Chester). Ian was an avid golfer and loved the camaraderie of the Toronto and Chester Golf Clubs. To all who met his, Ian was known as a true gentleman with a kind demeanor. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Michael; and second wife, Helen. He is survived by his loving and devoted spouse of 27 years, Maria Arnott; his children, Bruce, Alex (Mary), Janet (Jim); and stepdaughter, Alexandra; his grandchildren, Amy, Lisa, Gretchen, Meghan, Malcolm, Timothy, Kelsey, Janis, Joanna; and his great-grandchildren, Aiden and Theodore. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held in Saint Stephen's Church, Chester, at 11 a.m., September 7, with long-time friend The Rev. Canon Stephen Booth presiding. The family extends thanks for the tender care provided by the Shoreham Village staff.
