SMYTH, Gertrude Ramona

2020-05-17

It is with great sadness that the family of Gertrude Ramona Smyth, 89, of Lunenburg announces her passing on Sunday, May 17, 2020 at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born September 25, 1930 in Blue Rocks, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Miller) Knickle. Gertrude was very grateful to be raised by her grandmother, Caroline Miller of Blue Rocks and she was the last surviving member of her immediate family and will be deeply missed by all her nieces, nephews, cousins, their families and her many friends. Gertie (Aunt Grace to her beloved husband Frank’s family) made everyone she met feel special, especially children. It was a huge treat to have a sleepover at Gertie’s and Frank’s home. Gertie moved to Toronto as a young woman in the early 1950s where she met her husband. She loved city life as much as she loved her home in Blue Rocks which she returned to in the early 1980s. She was curious about life, loved to travel, was always up to date on world events, witty and kind. A cup of tea in the rocking chair with Gertie was an afternoon to look forward to. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1991, a brother Clifford Knickle and her sister Jennie Boutcher. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. A graveside committal service to celebrate Gertrude’s life will be held at a later date at the Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg, South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater or any charity of your choice. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
