TANNER, Beatrice Audrey

2022-04-08

It is with great sadness that the family of Beatrice Audrey Tanner, 84, of Lunenburg and formerly of Upper LaHave, announces her passing on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care.

Born in Maitland, Beatrice was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Emily (Ernst) Oickle.

In her earlier years, Beatrice worked at Kerr’s Restaurant, the old fish plant in Lunenburg, H. B. Nickerson’s and National Sea Products Fish Plants and did housekeeping for a number of families in the area.

She was a former member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Rose Bay where she was a member of the ELW.

Beatrice was a loving and caring person to family and friends. Before her illness, she enjoyed so many things. She would knit socks and mittens. Her baking was the most delicious especially her spud nuts (potato donuts) and woolly dogs, little cakes rolled in icing and coconut. She raised ducks, geese and chickens and always had an amazing vegetable garden. She bowled on the ladies bowling league in Lunenburg and Saturday nights you could find her kicking her heels up at a dance. Sundays were attending church and making a large Sunday dinner, which was either a turkey or duck. It was like Christmas dinner every Sunday. She could do anything she put her mind to, even shingling a building roof.

She was a woman of many talents and one of the hardest working women. She is now at peace and will be forever loved and remembered.

Beatrice is survived by her daughters, Marlene (Peter) Creaser, Bridgewater, and Cheryl Conrad (William Tanner), Heckman’s Island; husband, Paul Tanner, Bridgewater; sisters, Barbara Himmelman, Port Joli, and Virginia Walker, Bridgewater, grandchildren, Corey (Jessie), Aaron, Christian (Bailee) and Christopher (Savannah), great grandchildren, Lexie and Madelyn.

Beatrice was predeceased by sisters, Ina Nelson and an infant sister, Ruby.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg, where a service to celebrate Beatrice’s life was held on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 2 p.m., Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Interment is in the Lower LaHave Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or to a charity of your choice.
