87, of Bridgewater and formerly of Lunenburg, died Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Hillside Pines Home For Special Care, Bridgewater. Born in Montreal, Quebec, on October 8, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Frederick James and Nell (Gould) Ellis. She attended Queen’s University, Ontario, Police College and part-time Toronto University for her accounting courses. She had a few secretarial positions and then in 1957, joined the Metropolitan Police department working in the Morality Division and North York Detective Department. She left and married Constable Stanley Vousden, in 1963. In 1977 they moved up to Oro, Ontario and grew asparagus and there where she ran her accounting business. Stan died in 1994 and she moved to Lunenburg in 1999 where she continued her accounting business and was actively involved as a volunteer in many organizations in the town of Lunenburg. Dorothy is survived by daughter, Beverley (Rick) Vlahos, McHenry Illinois; two granddaughters, Jenny and Tammy (Michael) Dreiske; nephew, Peter Anthony “Tony” of Lunenburg and his children Peter Ellis, Christopher Ellis, Ellissa Crete and several other nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband Stanley Vousden and her brothers, Stanley Edward, William Douglas and Frederick James. Memorial service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg, with Rev. Steven Hiltz, officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia and the Lunenburg County VON or a charity of your choice. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
