AULENBACK, Eva Lucille

2023-01-24

It is with sadness that the family of Eva Lucille Aulenback, 94, Blockhouse and recently Mahone Bay Nursing Home, announces her passing on January 24, 2023, after a short stay at the South Shore Regional Hospital.

She was born in Blockhouse, the daughter of the late Edwin and Gladys (Hirtle) Mader.

Eva grew up in Blockhouse helping with the many chores of farm life and caring for her disabled sister.

Besides raising four children, she was very involved in the community, helping others, and working outside the home. She quickly became skilled at whatever she put her hand to. Employment included working in the family general store, seamstress at Art Textiles, driving rural mail, and providing in-home elderly care. Eva was a member of Home and School, Anglican Church Women, Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary, and Girl Guides, often in leadership roles. An avid gardener, she beautified and helped to renovate the abandoned "house by the tracks" that became the family home. Mom had an eye for style and decorating, loved animals, music, and a good joke. One of her joys was the cottage on Big Mush-a-Mush Lake. She had a fun loving spirit and took trips to Germany, Nashville, and western Canada.

Eva is survived by children, Brenton Aulenback (Jane), Mahone Bay; Suzanne Doucette (Mark), Tantallon; Beth Abbott (Murray), Blockhouse; Marilyn Emino (Everett), Hebbville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and former husband, Randall Aulenback, Bridgewater.

She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Julia.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Mahone Bay Nursing Home and the South Shore Regional Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Mahone Bay Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at St James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, with the Rev. Dr. Patti Brace officiating, Saturday, February 11, 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St James Anglican Church or charity of choice.
