2020-03-07

It is with great sadness that the family of George Gary Evans, 64 of Chester, announces his passing on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in South Porcupine, ON on March 31, 1955, George was the son of the late Albert Thomas and Florence (Corkum) Evans. George is survived by his loving wife, Vicki Sharp, who supported George until his final breath. One of George’s most celebrated days was his marriage to Vicki on, Sept 16, 2017 in Chester. George is also survived by his son, Steadman; the apple of his eye. In George’s words, Steadman was “The center of his universe”; Vicki’s children, Katie (Chris) Iyoupe, Jake (Brianna) Sharp; Ben (Katherine) Sharp; and their children, Elsie, Able, Annilise, Van, Bronwyn and Gweneth; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. George was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Rean Evans; Albert “Sonny” Evans and Wayne Evans. George had amazing relationships throughout his time on our wonderful earth. Family was extremely important to him. George attended school in Chester Municipal High School (1969) and JL Ilsley High School (class of 1972). He also studied Philosophy, at Dalhousie University (class of 1983). He worked as a Logistics officer/cook for the Canadian Coast Guard and endured long periods of time on our open seas. His life was spent nurturing those who were challenged with illness. Home Care in the Chester community was his passion. Acting was extremely important to George. His time at the Chester Playhouse stands out in our minds. George was a lover of nature, with a serious passion for trout fishing, swimming and riding on his slow moving “Yacht”. An experience most of us enjoyed with him. George was a builder. His time in the garden was truly remarkable. The community surely benefitted from his tender touch and care. A service celebrating the life of George will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Chester United Baptist Church, Chester, Rev. Sheila Ago, officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Reception to follow the service at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 44, Chester. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Pro Kids Chester, the Alexander Fleming Pattillo Memorial Foundation at the Chester Playhouse or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
