2021-04-29

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Myrtle Helen June Andrews (Joudrey) of Oakland, Lunenburg County, announce her peaceful passing on April 29, 2021 at the age of 82, in Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Upper Northfield on February 23, 1939, Myrtle was the eldest daughter of Charles (Archie) and Hilda (Naas) Joudrey.

Myrtle, at a very young age, began caring for others. Beginning as a young girl with her Grammie Joudrey spending overnight visits and special times tending to her needs. She continued this caring quality throughout her life when she became a wife and mother. Always providing the most wonderful pristine home environment for her family. She valued and took great pride in always having home cooked meals, clean clothes and the very best homemade bread that many enjoyed over the years. She worked for many years in her home community cleaning for local families and bringing her talents to their lives. She was a devoted member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mahone Bay, giving countless hours of time and devotion. She loved her Christian family and made lifelong connections that remained with her throughout these past years. Myrtle was a supportive mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Her dedication, love and support to our Dad over the entirety of their lives together was an inspiration. Knowing that she has joined him makes this day all the more bearable.

Myrtle is survived by daughters, Darlene (Keith) Oickle, Prospect Bay; Sheila (Paul) Barkhouse, Clearland and son, Brian (Elizabeth), Heckmans Island. She was a proud “Nana” to Greg and Kim Oickle, Justin and Cody Barkhouse, Brianna Andrews and Olivia Williams and “Great Nana” to Adele Barkhouse. Loving and supportive siblings, Judith (Arthur) Hamm, Maders Cove and William (Judy) Joudrey, Upper Cornwall.

Myrtle was predeceased by the love of her life, Donald “Donnie” and daughter in infancy, Donna Marie.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay; South Shore Hospice Palliative Care Society or charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Jensen, Dr. Gowan, staff of Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital and Palliative Care team for their ongoing support to Mom and her family during this journey. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mahone Funeral Home, P.O. Box 200, 32 Parish St., Mahone Bay, NS B0J 2E0 (Tel: 902-624-8241).
