WENTZELL, (Joudrey), Gladys May

Aged 94 of New Germany, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully at Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany on Sunday, November 20, 2022. Born in Stanburne, Lunenburg County, she was a daughter in the family of 14 of William and Opal (nee Carver) Joudrey.

She is survived by sister, Beulah (Leigh Dauphinee), West Northfield; son, Curt, Lower Sackville; grandson, Tyler (Carly) and their son, Henry, Toronto; grandson, Kyle (Samantha) and their children, Abigail and Clark, Lower Sackville; grand-daughter, Lindsay (Devon Learner) and their children, Jenna, Jacob, Miah and Kendal, Regina SK; brother-in-law, Winston Joudrey, New Germany; sister-in-law, Joan Dalzell, Grand Manan, NB.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Roderick (born in Baker Settlement); son, Scott; grandson, “Scooter” siblings, Hudson (Ruth) formerly of Bridgetown, Ruby (Maurice Varner) formerly of Stanburne, Alma (Oswald Russell) formerly of Cherryfield, Garnet (Viola) formerly of East Dalhousie, twin sister Doris (Vernon Neily) formerly of Middleton, Joyce (Sam Oickle) formerly of Stanburne, Estella (Otis DeLong) formerly of Barss Corner, Phyllis (Mervin Ritcey) formerly of Baker Settlement, Alice (Charlie Durling) formerly of Barss Corner, Tracey formerly of East Dalhousie, Oakley (Cheryll) formerly of Stanburne, Hilda formerly of New Germany; daughter-in-law, Bev, formerly of Regina, SK; daughter-in-law, Annie (nee Bremner) formerly of Ottawa, ON.

In her early years, Gladys had many chores on the family farm and walked three miles to a one-room schoolhouse in Stanburne. As a teen, she took the train to Middleton to work at the fruit canning plant and then sent money home. She met the love of her life at a dance in the Pinehurst Community Hall. She spent her married life in New Germany and raised two sons. She was proud that both of her boys became Royal Canadian Mounted Police. She worked within the home by doing home perms for ladies and refinishing upholstered furniture. She worked outside of the home at DeLong’s Farms and the Dairy Kone restaurant. She later worked in the wire department at Michelin Tire from 1975-1981. All the while, she also volunteered with the United Church Woman’s group. Her green thumb for all types of gardening was well known. She could always be relied upon to offer a cup of tea, a soft ear, and a helping hand.

Funeral service was held 1 p.m., Monday, November 28 in Epworth United Church, New Germany, Rev. David Lutes officiating. Interment to follow in Epworth United Cemetery.
