Armstrong, BC. No one ever wants the day to arrive when they have to write an obituary for one of their parents. They chose to bring you into this world and stand by your side your whole life, no matter the circumstances. Telling us stories of times growing up “back in their day”. Well, Dad was no exception. He just celebrated his 70th birthday on March 6, 2020 and he had lots of stories and adventures! Dad was born in Western Shore to Thomas and Joyce (Dorey). Unfortunately, just after he turned four years old, his mother tragically passed away at age 22. With his father being away on the coast guard, his grandmother Maude raised him with the help of her daughter Millie and granddaughter Yvonne or “Tee” as he called her. His maternal grandmother Marie and Aunt Joan became very special in his life as well over the years. Thomas remarried Enid (Hamm) and gave Dad a sister Judy and brother David, one niece and four nephews, of which followed special bonds with Corey and sister-in-law Wanda. In 1970, Dad and Mom married and then followed two daughters; Michelle and Tanya, dog Snoopy and cat Fluffy. He celebrated both Michelle and Tanya getting married and then in 1995 his only grandchild Brooke was born, then fur-grandchildren Lexis and Willow. Dad was a scallop fisherman in Lunenburg for many years. He loved going on his 4-wheeler back to camp sharing good times and many laughs with friends and family. He was a lover of all chocolate, Toronto Maple Leafs and never missed an episode of his favourite show The Curse of Oak Island, growing up with some of the cast. In year 2000, Dad decided to try a new adventure and moved to beautiful Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. He lived in BC with his cats Nikki and Smokey and they were treated like they were human children. For the past 20 years, Dad had created many great friendships in BC, most recently with neighbour Clayte who has helped him tremendously, including trips for his favourite McDoubles and enjoying the outdoors going fishing while taking in the beautiful sights of the Okanagan. Dad was excitedly counting the days down all year for Michelle to turn 50 years old on November 24th so that he could tease her, as he always enjoyed. Equally teasing Tanya whenever the opportunity arose. We loved his spunk! Dad was able to live life to its fullest and celebrate 70 years on this Earth, which he joked that he didn’t think he would ever see. He peacefully passed on November 26th with Tanya by his side, and with all in his heart. He has left us all with great memories and he would want everybody to raise a glass and have a laugh for him. Hug your parents tight while they are here with you and never forget to tell them how grateful you are that they decided to bring you into their world. Open your arms, Sweet Dad, and glide peacefully into your next journey with all of your loving family and friends awaiting your arrival. Many thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses at Vernon Jubilee hospital who provided Dad with the best care we could have ever asked for. Dad has been cremated, remaining with Michelle in NS until COVID restrictions allow a proper burial in Western Shore cemetery, NS.
