It is with great sadness that the family of Joanne Ellen Wheeler, 84 of Lunenburg announce her sudden passing on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Garden Lots on October 19, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Loraine and Alice Knickle.

In earlier years, Joanne worked in Mahone Bay doing housekeeping and worked in Lunenburg at the Boscawen Inn. She then became a fishermen’s wife, which allowed her to stay at home to raise her family.

She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Family was the most important thing to her. She enjoyed bowling, painting ceramics, listening to country music (loudly), gardening and games of Yahtzee with her friends.

Her love of life, family and friends were so important to her. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Joanne is survived by her son, Darren (Heather) Perham, Lunenburg; daughter, Denise (Joe) Grandy, Clyde River; sister, Audrey (Andrew) Brake, Lunenburg and a brother, Robert of Northwest; grandchildren, Jarret Perham (Kathlean) and Chelsea Baker (Justin); great-grandchildren, Avery, Broden, Nevaeh, Emilee, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin; brothers, Eugene, Loraine, Hughie, Gary, Watson, Clarence, Gerald, and Donald; and sisters, Marguerite and Barbara.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg. A private family graveside service was held on Friday, November 19, 2021, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg, Pastor Steve Hiltz, officiated.
