MAUGHAN, Walter Lovett

2018-08-23

89, born May 10, 1929, of Lower Branch, Lunenburg County, NS. Walter passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018 peacefully at home with his loving family by his side. Born in Bridgewater, he was the son of the late Gordon and Marie (Hubley). Predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Elsie (Veinot), who passed away nine years ago. He spoke often of working many places and doing many things: working at Brady's, the railroad, Acadia Construction, he owned and operated the garage station in West Northfield, Garth Crouse's, hen houses, mail delivery, and was a partner with his son, Vernon, in the family-owned and operated ground work business since 1974, Maughans Construction, in Lower Branch, where it still successfully runs today. Walter's family and friends will remember him as honest, hardworking, full of laughter and he wanted everyone to be okay and have fun. Walter was brought up in a musical environment and he could play any musical instrument from spoons to the accordion - "The Accordion Man - he was, and very good at it! We will miss his daily visits, advice, guidance, good or bad! He was very interested in what we were all doing, and would make many trips to the job site to see how it was going. Better known as "The Colonel is here". Walter spent a lot of time going to music jams, playing and singing with son Vernon and daughter Anna, which he enjoyed and looked forward to. Walter met a lot of friends, Elliott and Joan Corkum, Lloyd and Darlene Slauenwhite. Walter has met a cousin from his father's hometown, Clementsport, Pearle Lewis, daughters Bev and Bonnie. Walter met up with a longtime friend, Rose Feener, who filled a void that his children could not, thank you. Walter (Dad), the last couple years has been sick, but showed us the will to live, until he had to say goodbye. And with his wishes, he did not want to leave home, and now he is with our Mom and they are living happily ever after in eternity. The funeral service was held on August 26, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Northfield Fire Hall and was officiated by a good friend, Rev Willis Ott. Visitation was from 1-2 p.m. Interment will be at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of R.A. Corkum Funeral Home. "A life well-lived is a precious gift of hope and strength and grace, From someone who had made our world a brighter, better place. It's filled with moments sweet and sad, with smiles and sometimes tears. With friendships formed and good times shared and laughter throughout the years A life well-lived is a legacy of joy and pride and pleasure A loving, lasting memory our grateful hearts will treasure." Sadly missed and never forgotten, Vernon, Gail, Anna and our families.
