CROUSE, David Andrew

2021-10-22

It is with great sadness that the family of David Andrew Crouse, 84 of Front Centre, announces his passing on Friday, October 22, 2021 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born at home on the Conrad homestead on the Front Centre Road on October 19, 1937, David was the son of the late Everett and Elizabeth “Betty” (Conrad) Crouse.

David's happy place was in the kitchen. He started to bake cakes when he was about 12 years old. David had summer jobs at the Bluenose Lodge and worked at the Boscawen Manor in Lunenburg. He went to Halifax Vocational School to take the cooking course. He spent two summers at Keltic Lodge in Cape Breton, and one trip aboard a tanker with Shell Oil. He worked a few years at the IGA in Lunenburg and when an opportunity came along to get back in the kitchen he took it and spent the next 30+ years as the cook, food Supervisor and Dietician at the Fisherman's Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg. In his 'spare' time he catered to special events and banquets, operated the chowder kitchen at the Fisheries Exhibition for several years and, yes, baked all kinds of cakes. Wedding cakes, birthday cakes, anniversary cakes and Christmas cakes. He loved to cook and bake and feed people. There was also time to create and tend beautiful flower gardens on their property. They were beautiful and could have been the backdrop for special-event photo shoots. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, spending time at home with family and friends, reading , and listening to good music. There is so much more..... but the kitchen was his happy place.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, First South.

David is survived by his daughter, Lisa Crouse of Front Centre; son, Christopher (Noreen) Crouse of Bridgewater, grandchildren, Faye (John) Garland, Felicia Crouse (Junior Forward); great-grandchild, Keysha; and his sister, Karen Crouse (Lloyd Skinner), Bridgewater, nephews, Jeffrey and Graham Parks and their families.

He was predeceased by his parents, Everett and Betty Crouse and his wife, Mary in December 2020.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. At the family’s request there will not be a service at this time. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Sunny Valley Cemetery or to a charity of your choice. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
