BASSETT, Donald

2020-02-11

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Donald Arthur Bassett, age 76 of Rosebud, Lunenburg County, on February 11, 2020, peacefully in his sleep, at home. He was the son of the late Chester and Ursa "Madeline" (Oickle) Bassett. Don was born, raised and worked his entire life on the family farm. He never retired- he was active in Christmas tree harvesting, haying, logging and general farm life. He was best known in the city for his Christmas tree lot in Lower Sackville at Nothing Fancy. What free time he had he spent working at his "hobbies", tapping maple trees, gardening and fishing with his loving partner Janet Myers. Don and Janet would also enjoy community variety shows when they could find the time. Don was always on the go and he was happiest when he was busy. He was fortunate to live life on his own terms and he carried himself with the vigour of a much younger man. Don is survived by his partner Janet Myers; son Colin Bassett, Stanburne; daughters Charity Bassett, Northwest and Sarah Bassett, New Minas; grandchildren Brandon and Brian Rhodenizer, New Minas. He was predeceased by his wife Betty. Visitation was held 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, February 15 in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville with graveside service at Barss Corner Community Cemetery, Pastor Sam Jess officiated. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the South Shore Public Libraries Mobile Library Fund, or the Barss Corner Community Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, where on-line condolences may be made by visiting www.corkumfuneralhome.ca
