2017-12-08

August 28, 1917 – December 8, 2017. With great sadness, the family of Gwen Cunningham announces her peaceful passing at Creekway Village Long Term Care in Burlington, ON. Gwen celebrated her 100th birthday with family this past summer. Gwen was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec and was the only child of British parents. After her schooling, she worked as a private secretary for an insurance company in Montreal until she met and married Frederick. After their marriage, she remained at home to raise her family, Gordon & Carol. Fred and Gwen were married for 51 years until his passing in 1994. In her younger days, she was an avid tennis player and swimmer. She loved to cook and was an accomplished seamstress. She also played the piano and loved music. Her greatest passion was her love of animals of any kind and there was always at least one pet in her home. Both her love of animals and music was passed on to her children. Gwen leaves behind her daughter Carol Cunningham, her son Gordon and his wife Dale, all of Bridgewater, NS. In addition, she leaves her grandson Ian Cunningham, her granddaughter Heather and husband Ben Boucher and her great-grandson Wesley Boucher, all from the Halifax Region, NS. She also leaves behind her niece Joan Taylor and husband Glenn of Vestal, New York. In lieu of flowers, Gwen’s wishes were that donations be made in her name to the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada (6981 Concession 4, Puslinch, Ontario N0B 2J0). Cremation has taken place. A private funeral will be held in Bridgewater, NS. Interment will be in Brampton Memorial Gardens, Brampton, Ontario. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.corkumfuneralhome.ca.
