2021-02-18

Rev. Cecil St. Clair Hebb, 92, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 18, 2021 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Cecil Glenwood and Martha Ester (Eldridge) Hebb. As a young boy, Cecil attended Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater. He was a graduate of Dalhousie University (BA, Class 1950) and King’s College (Theology, 1953). Cecil felt the calling to serve God and while completing summer ministry in Prince Edward Island, met his future wife, Margaret, on the Small farm in Miscouche. He was ordained a Deacon, March 25, 1953 at Kings College Chapel, Halifax and was ordained a Priest of the Anglican Church of Canada on June 4, 1954 in St. George’s Anglican Church, Pugwash. Rev. Hebb, along with his very supportive wife, served in the parishes of Pugwash, Ship Harbour, Hubbards, Pictou and Annapolis-Granville. Following retirement in 1990, he continued to serve as Honorary Assistant Priest, Scripture Reader and Greeter at St. George’s Anglican Church, New Glasgow, and as a member of the Trinitarians Choir. Cecil enjoyed gardening (especially caring for his beloved tomato plants) and a good card game, where he usually held the best hand. He loved all creatures, big and small and was interested in fishing, woodworking, oil painting, reading and music. Cecil was a member of Hudson Lodge No. 77, A.F. & A.M., Thorburn, where he had served as Chaplain. Over the past few years, he frequently returned to the Hebb family property at Fancy Lake, which brought him great joy and produced many cherished memories for his family. For Cecil, we believe, on Thursday he heard the words, “well done, good and faithful servant…”. Surviving are his wife, Mildred (Aikens) Hebb, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow; daughter, Sandra (Russell) Mosher, Hebbs Cross, and their children, Kimberley (Michael) Preiksaitis, Loudonville, New York, USA and Kent Mosher, Hebbs Cross; son, Kenneth (Carol) Hebb, Gibsons, BC, and their children, Nedeen (George) Boon, Davis Bay, BC, and son, Jesse; Christy (Derek) Friess, Chilliwack, BC, and sons, Richard and Kain; sister, Jean Ann Moores, Hebbs Cross; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Cecil was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Gladys Budd (Small) Hebb; sister, Irene Ester Hebb; infant brother, Gordon Glenwood Hebb; brother-in-law, David Moores. A private funeral service was held in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow with Rev. Mark Pretty officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery, St. Eleanor’s, P.E.I. at a later date. If desired, donations may be made in Cecil’s memory to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 78 Alexandra Avenue, Bridgewater, NS B4V 1H1 or St. John’s Anglican Church, 74 Summer Street, Summerside, PE C1N 4P5. www.pkmacdonald.ca
