SARTY, Joyce Betty

2021-05-30

Age 80, of Western Shore, NS passed away peacefully on May 30, 2021 in the South Shore Regional Hospital. Born December 3, 1940 in Martins Point, Joyce was the eldest daughter of the late Ralph and Velma (Shute) Lowe.

She was predeceased by her mother Velma Lowe, her father Ralph Lowe, her dear sister Donna Morgan, and her beautiful daughter Susan Sarty.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years William “Willie” Sarty, Western Shore; her daughter Linda (Johnie) Hatt, Bermuda; her son Bill (Nicole Robitaille) Sarty, Dartmouth; grandchildren Peter (Jes Wakelam) Hatt (Calgary), Tabitha Cleveland (Western Shore), Abbigail Sarty (Middle Sackville), Jacqueline Sarty (Western Shore), and Adam Sarty (Middle Sackville). She is also survived by brother Donald (Elaine) Lowe (Martin’s Point), as well as several nieces and nephews, and a very large circle of family and friends.

Joyce was happiest when sitting under a palm tree in the warm Caribbean sun, or trying her luck at bingo, penny auctions, and yard sales. She lived life to the fullest and knew how to find joy in the little things. Her strength and courage during the past year was admirable, proving she may have been small but she sure was fierce!

Above all else, Joyce was devoted to her family. She often spoke of her trip to Hawaii with her sister Donna, and she was incredibly proud of all of her children and grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life to honour Joyce will be held at a later date, once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted and it is safe for all friends and family to travel and gather.

Sincere thanks to the staff at the South Shore Regional Hospital, as well as the VON, Palliative Care, and Lunenburg County Home Support. Special thanks also to friends who are family, Monica Maughan and Carole Rafuse. Donations in memory of Joyce may be made to The Rose Fund (therosefund.ca) or Craig’s Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society (craigscause.ca).
