87, of Mahone Bay, passed away on September 16, 2017, at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg. Born February 8, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Dennis and Lydia (Leaman) Aulenback. Jean will always be remembered for her gentleness and kind, loving spirit. She was employed in various secretarial positions, her last employment being a Court Stenographer for the Department of the Attorney General. A dedicated member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay, she was a member of the Evangelical Church Women, served on the Altar Guild, Quilter’s Guild & served as secretary of the church council for many years and secretary of the E.L.C.I.C., Atlantic Conference. She was a former member of Mahone Bay Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Jean loved spending time with her family, camping, boating, and riding with her husband on their motorcycle. (So cool!) They enjoyed vacations together, especially two trips to Florida with daughter, Linda, and her husband, Brian. She enjoyed reading, sewing and the company of their pets … with a fondness for poodles. Her grandchildren remember her delicious pies and cookies and being taken along on camping trips. She played the guitar and had a beautiful voice. Her children fondly remember family singing around campfires and in the car on Sunday drives. Mom & Dad harmonized beautifully. Jean is survived by and leaves to mourn, her five children, Diane (David) Laking, Truro; Judy (Joe) Verge, Farmville; Ronald Nauss, Jr., Mader’s Cove; Linda (Brian) Parnall, Chester and Gail Nauss, Maitland; her 11 grandchildren, Neil Laking, Erin Laking, Barbara (Jason) MacKinnon, Margaret (Nick) Capone, Adam (Stacey) Nauss, Jason Nauss, Hamoudi ( Ferial) Sayah, Shadi (Jessica) Sayah, Robbie (Suzie) Sayah, Lydia Brake and Charles Brake; great-grandchildren, Hazen and Amelia Laking, Rowan and Blair Laking-Jones, Sara and Margaret MacKinnon, Teagan and Caden Nauss; sibling, Murray Aulenback, Mahone Bay; sisters-in-law, Marion Feindel, Bridgewater and Donna Nauss, Mahone Bay; 3 nieces and nine nephews. Pre-deceased by her husband of 64 years, Ronald (Toby) Nauss; sisters-in-law, Linda Aulenback, Kathleen Naas, Ruth Naas and Jean Nauss; brothers-in-law, Wilfred (Bobby) Naas, Douglas Nauss, George Nauss and Rayfield Naas. Funeral service will be held 2 pm, Thursday, September 21, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or SHAID Tree Animal Shelter. The family wishes to express gratitude for the kindness, help & support provided to Mom & her caregivers by Dr. Gowan & staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital.
