DAHN, Raymond Charles

Age 93. It is with sorrow that the family of Raymond Dahn announces his death after a short illness on February 28, 2020. Raymond was born in Passaic, New Jersey USA on April 6, 1926, son of Raymond and Marcelle (Marignac) Dahn. He is survived by his sons: Douglas Dahn (Julia Purcell), Clyde River PEI; Jeffery Dahn (Kathy), Halifax; Roger Dahn (Mona McLaughlin), Bathurst NB; and daughter Nancy Dahn (Timothy Steeves), St. John’s NL and by 11 grandchildren: Christopher Dahn, Montreal; Dorothy Dahn (Rob MacPhee), Charlottetown PEI; Mira Dahn, Vancouver; Renée Dahn, Ottawa; Hannah Dahn (Marc Cormier), Halifax; Tara Dahn (Josh Senman), Halifax; Jackson Dahn (Meg), Halifax; Dustin Dahn (Meghan Haring), Bathurst NB; Jessica Dahn (Sara McCarthy), Happy Valley-Goose Bay NL; Clara Steeves, St. John’s NL; Sasha Steeves, St. John’s NL.; and eight great-grandchildren: Silas Gregory-Dahn, Merrick Gregory-Dahn, Elliot Dahn, Mason Dahn, Oscar MacPhee, Ivy MacPhee, Ezra MacPhee, and Amos Cormier. Raymond is also survived by a sister, Eloise Dahn Blanpied, Delaware, USA. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Margery Huber Dahn. Raymond was a veteran of WWII having served in a Tank Destroyer battalion of the US Army. He graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Stevens Institute of Technology. Raymond married his lifelong love, Margery, on June 30, 1950. Raymond’s career involved varied engineering and administrative assignments in industries throughout northeastern USA and, before immigrating to Canada, as Business Manager of Friends World College, Long Island, New York. The family arrived in Centre, Nova Scotia in 1970 and has not moved an inch since. Raymond worked at ABCO Plastics and was a small business owner. He was a member of the Lunenburg Curling Club and a VON volunteer. Raymond’s main interest was watching and encouraging his children as they prepared to leave the nest. A close second was his love of the farm woodlot and working in it. He was an active member of the South Shore Quaker Group, a member of the South Shore Chapter of the Council of Canadians and of the Bridgewater peace group, People for Peace. A memorial service to celebrate Ray’s life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the nurses and medical staff at South Shore Regional Hospital for the exceptional care they gave Ray during his illness.
