KOLADA (Hebb), Judith Ann

2020-04-18

Surrounded by her family, Judy passed away at her son’s home in Thompson, Manitoba on April 18, 2020 from a long battle with cancer.

She would have been 76 on April 21.

Born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Judy was the eldest daughter of E. Clayton Hebb and Ada (Crouse) Hebb. She grew up in Hebb’s Cross, Nova Scotia and moved to Thompson, Manitoba in 1963 after graduating from Bridgewater Business College. She worked in secretarial/bookkeeping positions until her children were born and did not commence employment again until they were in school.

Judy was employed by the Provincial Government for 30 years, first with Department of Northern Affairs and Airport Programs, then with the Department of Labor as an employment standards officer. This position encompassed a good portion of Northern Manitoba. After retiring from government, she served 3 years as the Executive Director of the Thompson YWCA.

Judy was first elected as a councillor of the City of Thompson in 1995 and was re-elected six more times without defeat. Like her father she was very passionate about working for her constituents. This same passion was evident in her youth when she would accompany her father at some of his board meetings. He served on many executive boards from the 1940’s to the 1960’s in Lunenburg County. Judy loved what she did and was known to be honest in her dealings. She was still involved in council work a week prior to her passing. She will be remembered by many of her Thompsonites for her commitment to her work on city council and volunteer work in many community events.

Judy is survived by two sons: Carl Clayton (Kerry) and Kenneth Clifford (Kenny) Kolada and four grandchildren: Christopher, Flinn Flonn; Alyssa, Thompson; Brittany and Kenneth in Winnipeg; and one great-grandson, Kloud, in Flinn Flonn.

She is survived by two brothers: Gerald (Rose Mary) Hebb in Bridgewater NS, Brian (Ana) Hebb in Anderson, S.C. and two sisters: Linda (Max) Lohnes in Conquerall Bank, NS, and Brenda Hebb in Hebb’s Cross, NS. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Judy was predeceased by her father E. Clayton in 1965; mother, Ada in 2004, and two brothers: Paul in 1981, and Milledge (Peter) in 2013.

In memoriam donation may be made to Cancer Care Society.

A celebration of Life will be held in Thompson at a later date due to COVID19. She will be laid to rest in Nova Scotia, date and time to be announced later.
