MCLEOD, Phyllis Louise

2020-08-27

It is with deep sadness that the family of Phyllis Louise McLeod of Lunenburg announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Born in Bridgewater, NS, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Chester and Lydia (Veinot) Morgan. After graduating from high school, she began working at JJ Kinley Drug Store in Bridgewater until her marriage to Bert, her husband for over 65 years. They started married life in Lunenburg, where Bert was employed and later owned HS Fulton Drug Store. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, and later of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lunenburg. Besides her husband, Phyllis is survived by daughters Bonnie (Rick) Demone, Quispamsis, NB; Sharon (Alan) Covey, Yarmouth, NS; a son, Brian (Mildred) McLeod, Heckman’s Island, NS; grandchildren Jennifer (Cory) Mahoney, Yarmouth, NS, and Bradley (Jessica) Demone, Rothesay, NB; great grandchildren Hayden Mahoney, Scarlett Mahoney, and Adaline Demone. She is also survived by her brother Gerald (Vera) Morgan, Bridgewater, NS, and nieces and nephews Gary Kelly, Rick Kelly, David Morgan, Debbie Peterson, Peter Morgan, and Heather Kocsis. Besides her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by sisters Elizabeth Crossley and Ruth Kelly, brother Harold Morgan, and brother Frederick (in infancy); and cherished grandson, Christopher Covey. Above all, family, friends and faith were most important to Mom. Her baking and cooking skills were enjoyed by countless over the years, and she always helped others in any way she could. Family and friends were always warmly welcomed into her home with open arms. A private family service and burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Parkinson Society Nova Scotia (https://www.parkinsonsocietynovascotia.com), SHAID Tree Animal Shelter (http://shaid.online) and an act of kindness to others would be most appreciated. The family would like to thank Doctors Newton, Farrell, and Cole, and the staff of Emergency and 2nd Medical for their gentle care, and for the kind support to our family. Special thanks go to Pastor Rick Pryce for his visits, kindness and guidance. Funeral arrangements are under the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
