RODENHISER, Clara Maude "Hannah"

2017-07-19

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of "Nanny Hannah" Rodenhiser, July 19, 2017, in Dartmouth General Hospital. She was born February 2, 1923, to Gilbert and Hattie Cross of Big Tancook Island, where she lived most of her life. She picked up the nickname Hannah from a song when she was a child, and she kept it all of her days. She married David Zenus Rodenhiser in 1938, and had a son Weldon. The hard-working wife of a fisherman and farmer, she loved her vegetable gardens and being a mother to Weldon. She enjoyed country music, going to bingo, and in her later years rarely missed a Sidney Crosby game on TV. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. She had a long and happy life; as she remarked in recent weeks, "Not many people get to be 94 years old." Hannah is survived by her loving son, Weldon (Patricia) of Dartmouth; her grandsons, David (Angela), Andrew (Mimi), and Adam (Shannon); and great-grandsons, Maxwell and Henry, as well as her specialfriends and relatives, Sheila, Rosa, Gladys, Verta, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, David; and her siblings, Clark, Willis (Gladys), Denzil (Louise), Ena (Percy), and Eric (Estelle). Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Dartmouth General Hospital who cared for Hannah during her final eight weeks. Funeral service 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, in Davis Funeral Home in Chester, Rev. Dr. Dan Green officiating, with burial to follow at approximately 11:45 a.m. in Tancook Island Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Tancook Island Baptist Church, Tancook Island Recreation Centre, East Dartmouth Christian Food Bank, or a charity of your choice.
