SLAUENWHITE, Harley Melvin

2021-10-17

69, of Lower Northfield, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 17, 2021 in his hospital room at SSRH. Born at Dawson Memorial Hospital in Bridgewater, Harley lived most of his life in the family home in Lower Northfield, until a few short years ago. Harley lost his mom at a young age and was raised by his siblings, mostly by his sister Grace who never stopped looking out for him. He was always an easy-going fellow who loved having family drop in for a visit, rarely a harsh word to be spoken about anyone.

Harley was predeceased by his parents Archibald (1889-1985) and Elizabeth (Westhaver) (1913-1954); brothers Kenneth (1935-1974) and Fred (1936-1988); and niece Tina (Fehr) (1964-2017).

Though Harley had many loves throughout his life and helped to look after others’ children, he never had a family of his own. He leaves behind his brother Harold (Joan); sister Grace (Victor) Oickle; sister-in-law Paulette (wife of late Kenneth); nieces Vickie (Paul) Wagner and Theo Slauenwhite; nephews Jeffrey (Susan) Slauenwhite and Michael Slauenwhite; and over a dozen great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Though many asked how Harley was doing, and wished they could go in to see him, it is a great solace to know that his sister was able to spend time with him during his last good moments of clarity, before his condition became so great that he slipped away.

For those of you who were unable to say your goodbyes and wish to join us, we will be having a celebration of life at a later time.
