“Aggressive” bogus Revenue Canada callers target Queens County residents

Callers purporting to be Revenue Canada agents have been aggressively targeting Queens County residents.

Queens District RCMP issued a warning December 5 that a number of "aggressive" callers are phoning residents and demanding arrangement for payment of owed federal taxes immediately, sometimes commanding that the call recipients not even hang up the phone.

The alleged agent will provide a certain amount, usually a believable sum between $2,000.00 to $5,000.00. The caller then tells the call recipient that police are en route to arrest the recipient and/or execute a search warrant on their residence.

The caller tells residents they can call off the police if payment is arranged with him or her over the phone.

Should someone receive such a call, police encourage them to remain calm, advise the caller they are aware it is a scam, that they are contacting police, and hang up.

Do not divulge any personal or financial information to the caller. Canada Revenue does not conduct tax collection over the phone.
