Two South Shore athletes have been named to the 2018 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Legion Track and Field Team.

Evelyn Ferguson of Lunenburg and Nick Landry of Bridgewater will compete in August in Brandon, Manitoba at the Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships.

Ferguson qualified in the triple jump, while Landry qualifed in hurdles.

Athletes across the province showed their very best in running, throwing and jumping in late June at the Athletics NS Track and Field Provincial Championships and Legion Team Selection Meet. The event, held in Dartmouth at Beazley Field brought together over 250 track and field athletes of all ages.

Those competing in the Midget and Youth Categories chased standards and selection criteria to be named to the 2018 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Legion Track and Field Team.

"This program has played a huge role in the development of track and field in our province. The entire staff is eager to lead this incredible group of athletes to the National Legion Championships in August and help shape the future of track and field in Nova Scotia," Jonathan Doucette, technical director said in a statement.

The two Lunenburg County athletes join 36 others named to the team.
