The Gary L. Wentzell Tournament cancelled over COVID-19 concerns

The Gary L. Wentzell Tournament scheduled to be held at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre March 17-22 has been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of 70 teams, including 62 out-of-town teams were scheduled to compete in the event.

Hockey Nova Scotia has cancelled all games and practises for teams under their association, leaving many empty rinks across the province.

Tournament organizer Glenn Carey called it disappointing, but does added that he hopes it will only be postponed and that the tournament will be able to be held before next season.

The Atlantic Canada Skating Championships that were scheduled for Paradise, Newfoundland for March 27-29 was also among the most recent cancellations, impacting locally three young skaters from Bridgewater who were scheduled to take part in the event.

Soccer Nova Scotia has also cancelled of all sanctioned soccer activities until further notice.

On a larger scale, the NHL, MLS, NBA and MLB have also either cancelled, delayed or postponed their seasons.

Nova Scotia has not yet registered a case of COVID-19.
