SQMS Girls doubles team wins provincial title

LIVERPOOL – The South Queens Middle School tandem of Josey Huskins and Calla Brown won the School Sport Nova Scotia provincial badminton championships in girls' doubles in Truro April 29 and 30th.

They helped lead the SQMS team to a fourth-place overall finish.

Also competing from SQMS were the boys' doubles team of Wesley Roy and Shalom Ahmad who finished fourth. In singles' competition, Sam Hartlen finished in fifth spot.

The Liverpool Regional High School team also competed and accomplished many firsts for the program.

Also collecting medals were Koen Shand and Sammy Cochrane who earned bronze medals in the intermediate boy's doubles competition – a first – and Brett Tutty and Allie Robinson finished in a three-way tie for first in their division in mixed doubles.

The intermediate team won the provincial bronze medal in the overall team event.

Leading the charge for the seniors was Lee Robertson who won the silver medal in the senior boy's singles competition and the team of Maggie Hadskis and Marah Mitton earned a silver in the senior girls' doubles event. Both are firsts for LRHS.
