Officer sustains minor injuries in police vehicle crash

by Keith Corcoran

A RCMP officer wasn't seriously hurt but the marked Ford Explorer she was driving sustained significant damage after it crashed into a Knox Road ditch in Baker Settlement on December 30.

The Mountie, who was the sole occupant of unit 8B4, was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution. It's not believed she was responding to a call at the time of the crash, around 3 p.m.

First responders, including volunteer firefighters from Wileville and the tri-district area, which services Baker Settlement and neighbouring communities, were summoned to the incident.

It's believed the Explorer skidded on a patch of ice and rolled at least once, coming to rest on its wheels not far from the Arthur Knox Road and the Baker Settlement/Chelsea line.

There were temporary traffic restrictions in the area as emergency crews worked the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
