Motorist ticketed in 2016 crash that killed Lunenburg County senior

A driver involved in a traffic accident two years ago that resulted in the death of a Lunenburg County woman won't face criminal charges.

The unidentified motorist was ticketed under the province's Motor Vehicle Act for failing to yield when making a left turn, a RCMP spokeswoman confirmed.

"No other charges pending, and yes the file is concluded," Cpl. Jennifer Clarke told LighthouseNOW in an email.

Sylvia Fayette Mailman, 72, was driving a sport utility vehicle on Highway 210 in Chelsea, Lunenburg County, on the afternoon of August 17, 2016 when her vehicle was struck by a sedan attempting a left turn.

The 65 year old man driving the car sustained minor injuries, but Mailman died in South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater. She worked in the hospital's cafeteria for over 40 years.

"She loved her job and often spoke that her gratification was meeting and serving the people," Mailman's published obituary read in part.

Mailman is survived by her husband, four sons and two daughters.
