A fisherman on Molega Lake was found safe and sound following a search and rescue operation May 20 to 21.

At about 9:45 p.m. on May 20 the Lunenburg District RCMP received a report of a fisherman who had not returned from a day of fishing.

Members of fire departments from Greenfield, Liverpool, North Queens and Annapolis Royal, along with the RCMP and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, searched through the night.

As the hunt continued, plans were being made to have local ground search and rescue teams begin a ground search at daylight.

However, at about 5:15 a.m. the missing fisherman and his boat were located on the shoreline by one of the fire department's rescue team. He was in good health and after being transported back to the boat launch, he was examined by EHS and released.

According to an RCMP media release, the fisherman said that he had run into engine issues and had made his way to the nearest shoreline to wait for rescuers to find him. He did not have a cellphone with him.
